Hair Wigs Care Instructions

Vanda Salon offers both 100% natural hair wigs and synthetic wigs.  Please see below for information on how to care for your different types of wigs.

Synthetic wigs are heat sensitive.  High temperatures can cause the fibers to fray or in extreme cases even melt.  Stay clear of high heat from cooking stoves, curling irons and other intense heat applications.

Use a comb or brush made for synthetic hair.  Using an incorrect brush can frizz out the piece.  Wide tooth brushes or picks work best or you can simply finger through the piece to restore the look.

Shampoo after 10 wears depending upon amount of wig spray or mousse applied.

To shampoo:

  • Fill a basin with water and add mild shampoo and swish your wig gently in water/shampoo solution.
  • Rinse thoroughly in cold water
  • Gently shake hairpiece out
  • Drip dry
  • Do not brush hairpiece when wet
  • Brush into desired style when completely dry
  • No setting is necessary; curls will snap back into position when the hairpiece is completely dry

Use only shampoo, conditioner and detangler that are specifically formulated for synthetic hair.

Store hair similar to the way it is to be worn.

Heat Friendly Hair Products:

Heat Friendly products are able withstand a low amount of heat from styling tools. Always be aware of your styling tool’s settings and do not go above 280 degrees.

Only use a wide tooth comb to brush your heat friendly wig.

We recommend washing your piece every six to ten wears.

To shampoo:

  • Fill a basin of mild shampoo and swish gently in water
  • Rinse thoroughly in cold water
  • Gently shake hairpiece out
  • Drip dry
  • Do not brush hairpiece when wet
  • Brush into desired style when completely dry
  • No setting is necessary; curls will snap back into position when the hairpiece is completely dry

Store hair similar to the way it is to be worn.

Make sure to only use shampoo and conditioner specifically suited to synthetic hair fiber. We highly suggest using Jon Renau’s Heat Defiant Smooth Detangler anytime you are wearing a heat friendly piece. We also recommend using a heat protectant when using heat to style your piece. This will prevent frizzing and will help your ends stay looking their best!

Human Hair

Human hair can be straightened with a flat iron, curled with hot rollers, dyed a color or permed just like you would with your own hair.

To shampoo:

  • Wash your wig every 8 – 14 days, or as needed. Using a dry shampoo can help you go longer between washings when sprayed on the interior of the cap. (We don’t recommend spraying dry shampoo on the outside of human hair wigs.)
  • Brush out tangles prior to washing
  • Fill a basin of mild shampoo and swish gently in water
  • Rinse thoroughly in cold water
  • Gently shake hairpiece out
  • Drip dry
  • Do not brush hairpiece when wet
  • Brush into desired style when completely dry
  • No setting is necessary; curls will snap back into position when the hairpiece is completely dry
  • Store hair similar to the way it is to be worn.
